Grandmother's Ring Turned into Gifts for Grandkids

Sifting through inherited jewelry, after the loss of a loved one, can be emotionally draining. Determining what to do with that jewelry is even more stressful for some families.

At Hingham Jewelers, we want to help make things easier.

This spring a woman came in with a ring left to her by her mother-in-law. It was a double row, yellow gold ring with 9 round diamonds.

Instead of keeping the ring for herself, our client wanted to break down the ring to create gifts for each of the grandchildren, a mixture of boys and girls.

The boys graciously said the stones allocated to them could be used by the girls, to enhance their designs.

With that in mind, our design team went to work.

For one of the girls we made a single diamond bezel, set in yellow gold.

For another we created a diamond-by-the-inch style necklace using three diamonds.

The final granddaughter wanted a pair of earrings, so we used two diamonds to create a pair of martini set studs.

The leftover diamonds were returned to the client, loose, for other future projects.

This was a really fun way to leave the grandchildren with lovely memories of their grandmother for years to come. Moreover, these items can be passed down to future generations as well, keeping the sentiment alive for the future.
