Upgrading an original engagement ring is common. Having a husband surprise his wife with one of those upgrades is less common.
That's because it's tricky, and requires careful coordination.
After all, how do you take your wife's diamond without giving away your plan?
One local husband was able to pull it off, though.
He came in to our store with his mother a few weeks before Valentine's Day. He told our design specialist that he wanted to upgrade his wife's ring, then surprise her with the new ring on Valentine's Day.
The original engagement ring was a princess cut solitaire. He wanted her to have something more impressive.
We settled on this beautiful ring, which includes a diamond halo around the center stone, and small accent diamonds down each side of the ring. This really makes the ring far more impressive and stunning!
He was able to surprise her by claiming he brought her original ring in for cleaning, and rhodium plating, which it did need. But instead of just getting a clean ring back, she received a brand new ring!
Watching all of this transpire when she was here, his mother decided she also wanted to upgrade her ring.
She decided to replace her yellow gold channel set engagement ring with a new platinum mounting that has prong set diamonds on each side of the center stone.
She then created even more of a 'wow' factor by adding two diamond bands, one on each side.
