Well-crafted jewelry is meant to last generations, making it easy to understand why it becomes so sentimental. Each piece of jewelry holds special memories. You may remember your loved one wearing a certain piece, which can then be passed down as a special keepsake. It’s unlikely you’d want to wear clothes your Grandmother wore, but her ring? Totally different. You can wear the same piece, keeping her memory close to you.
That’s part of what inspired one of our clients this Spring. She wanted to create a three-stone ring for herself. Originally she was thinking she’d make the three-stone using her Mother’s diamond, her Grandmother’s diamond, and her own. After much thought, she decided she wanted to keep her own ring by itself. But she still wanted to use the family stones in a new ring.
Our Design Specialist encouraged her to look around her jewelry box, to see what else she wasn't wearing regularly. During the search our client found a sapphire and diamond bracelet. She no long wore it, so our specialist suggested using the sapphire and diamonds from that bracelet in the new three-stone ring.
She loved the idea, so we created sketches of how the ring would look.
The sapphire would be in the center, flanked by the diamonds from her Mother and Grandmother. Down each side of the ring, we’d use the small diamonds that were originally around the sapphire in the bracelet.
As a small, final touch we engraved an ‘H’ and ‘R’ inside the ring, under each of the diamonds. That way the client would always know which diamond came from her Mother and her Grandmother.
In addition to the new sapphire and diamond ring, loaded with family memories, we also repurposed her Mother’s ring.
Once the diamond was out of the original ring, our designers turned the remaining gold into a necklace. They carefully reshaped the gold from its rounded shape, into a flat pendant.
In the process they were able to save the original engraving from the ring.
This project came together over the course of months, but now gives new life to pieces that might otherwise just sit in a jewelry box! If you have a custom creation you’d like to discuss, make an appointment with us!
