Shopping for an engagement ring sparks countless questions: about the quality or type of stone used, the style of the ring, and even, who to shop with.
Decades ago it was typical for one partner to shop for the other alone—often a man for a woman.
Now, things have changed dramatically.
We regularly have couples shopping together. In fact, at Hingham Jewelers, many more couples come in together to shop for a ring.
Often times we’ll see a couple come in together to try on rings—various styles and stone types—to get a sense of what each person likes.
We offer an interactive design space, making it easy to see different shape and size stones set in different style rings.
Then, our specialists will keep detailed notes on the top preferences. That includes things like finger size, which can be one of the trickiest parts to get right!
At that point one partner usually comes back, creating the ring he or she knows their loved one will swoon over. This takes away a lot of stress over picking the perfect ring, while still allowing for some surprise—the proposal itself!
In some cases we have a partner come in with family--their parent, or their loved one's parent or sibling. Sometimes grandparents even come along to provide their sage advice.
If a partner does come in solo, and that does still happen, modern technology makes it easier to select a beautiful ring. Subtle inspiration pictures—from friends, or social media—can help guide the process.
Even without photos, don’t worry. Our experts are here to think of everything for you! If you’d like to schedule a consultation to discuss engagement rings, by yourself or with your loved one, make an appointment.
