While jewelry lasts generations, it often needs a little upkeep.
A client came to us during the holiday season with her mother's emerald and diamond ring. One of the stones had fallen out because a prong was damaged. This is very normal, especially in older rings.
Our Goldsmith evaluated the ring for repair, but he had a few concerns.
For starters, there is always a risk when working with an emerald--those are fragile stones. Additionally, he could see metal fatigue in the ring. He was worried that if he reset the diamond and repaired the prong, the work may not hold up.
Our team presented two options to our client: repair the ring, understanding it may need more upkeep in the future due to the metal fatigue, or replicate the ring and start from scratch.
The client chose the latter. She wanted us to custom create a replica of the ring that would look the same, but be brand new. This would keep the ring in good shape for years to come.
We started off by removing each stone in the existing ring, taking exact measurements of each.
Then we created a computer rendering of the ring, so the client could approve the design. It looked exactly like the original--just with stronger metal!
Once the ring was created, our Goldsmith reset each of the original stones into the new ring.
It came out beautifully, and now our client can wear and enjoy the ring knowing it's in great shape!
