While emotionally meaningful, inheriting jewelry often presents challenges.
In many cases jewelry that is inherited may not match the recipient’s style. And that’s okay! You should wear pieces loaded with memories; don’t let them sit in a jewelry box for years unworn! Small tweaks can be made to totally reinvent jewelry into a new style, perfect for a new member of the family.
This ring is a great example of that. The original piece featured two rows of round diamonds, with a larger marquise shaped diamond set in the center between the two rows. Because it was a family piece, with lots of memories, our client wanted to wear and enjoy it, but the style just simply did not match her own.
She worked with a member of our design team to brainstorm pieces she would wear.
The first was a simple stacking band set in white gold. We were able to remove the round diamonds from the original ring and set them into this classic band. It can be worn every day, and goes well with pieces she already has.
Then our attention turned to the marquise in the center. Marquise shaped diamonds can be tricky to work with, but our client decided she may like a necklace. We came up with this design, which would highlight the marquise in the center, with a small halo of round diamonds around it. We set the marquise “east-west”, for a more modern look. We also set it in yellow gold, which is much more trendy at the moment.
From this one piece, which would just sit in a drawer somewhere, we were able to create two very wearable pieces which maintains the family history—in a new way!
